We are not at the tipping point; Close but not there yet

Things are not going well, but we are not at the tipping point yet. We are close but still not there.

It is easy to look at the landscape and find deep pain and despair. But, a deeper look will show that we are not alone, and there are signs of hope for a better future.

There is no doubt that we are a deeply divided in the United States. Look beyond our shores, and you will find a deeply divided world, one in which many of the same issues are present. Despite what one may pick up in the media, we are not terribly unique.

For example, a glance at Europe will show schisms over Covid shots, illegal immigration, economic uncertainty, social injustices, dictatorships, incompetence in governance, and a planet that may not sustain us.

Views in other directions reveal much of the same in addition to terrible poverty, more dictatorships, mass starvation, and developed countries that burn with their icy cold shoulders in response to basic human needs.

These views are, of course, cursory but plain to see to those who choose to, and many of the dots that reveal the disturbing patterns are not hard to connect.

What is missing is the honesty and the political will to tell people what the end game of the political classes are. Also missing is the courage to speak up, a product of severe consequences that result from the exercise of free speech, something that was so sacred in the United States and fought for by many. This has to change so we can have sincere political and social discourse. It’s the only way we will find solutions to our problems.

Running away from complex and uncomfortable conversations will only make things worse.
